Dr. David Samadi Provides Update about Mitt Romney’s Cancer Prognosis

Dr. David Samadi, Chief Urologist and Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York details the positive prognosis about Mitt Romney’s prostate cancer diagnosis. Mitt Romney, 70, was diagnosed with prostate cancer after discovering a slow-growing tumor in 2017.

Dr. David Samadi has much insight to offer on the topic as he specializes in Urology and has been practicing medicine since graduating from Stony Brook School of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Samadi continued his post-graduate studies in urology at Montefiore Medical Center. He also completed studies in proctology and completed a fellowship in oncology proctology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2001.

Dr. Samadi went on to work at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital before joining the faculty at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. He went on to become Mt. Sinai’s Vice Chair of the Department of Urology as well as the Chief of Robotics & Minimally Invasive Surgery. In 2013 Dr. David Samaid moved to Lenox Hill Hospital as Chair of Urology and Chief of Robotic Surgery.

Dr. Samadi has treated patients who have also been diagnosed with prostate cancer like Mitt Romney. While not all cases of prostate cancer are the same and some do require specialized treatment, Mitt Romney was diagnosed with the most common and most curable form of prostate cancer for a man his age. Over half of prostate cancer diagnosis’s occur in men 65 or older and is rare in men under 40.

Mitt Romney has had a positive prognosis update after choosing surgery versus radiation to tackle his cancer. Dr. Samadi recommends surgery first to treat prostate cancer, especially for cancer that is localized and hasn’t spread. The survival rates for men who choose surgery versus radiation is higher and men who choose surgery over radiation have lesser chance of the cancer returning.

Also as Dr. Samadi explains treating with radiation comes with more risk and makes surgery less effective when utilized as a second choice for treatment. Chances of secondary cancers, especially in the bladder and colon, are higher when radiation treatment is used. For men who have a tumor that hasn’t spread, treatment with surgery has almost a one hundred percent survival rate according to Dr. Samadi.

Mitt Romney joins a number of public figures that have undergone surgery for prostate cancer including former presidential candidate John Kerry. Dr. Samadi’s advice to any man diagnosed with prostate cancer is to find a qualified doctor to help determine the best treatment plan to ensure a positive outcome like Mitt Romney’s positive prognosis.

Desiree Perez Doesn’t Stand Idle in Face of Misogyny

When one considers the powerhouse that is Jay-Z, the name Desiree Perez is often not far from the mind. As the COO of ROC Nation, a position she’s held since 2009, she’s overseen the steady and successful climb of many musical artists–Jay-Z among them. Although private, Desiree Perez did not stand idly by when Neil Portnow, president of Recording Academy, made an insensitive remark regarding women. In this statement, he said that women needed to step up in order to advance their careers.

Naturally, Desiree and other women were not keen on letting Portnow slide with that offensive statement. Pink reportedly said in response, “Women in music don’t need to ‘step up’—women have been stepping since the beginning of time . . . Women OWNED music this year. They’ve been KILLING IT. And every year before this. When we celebrate and honor the talent and accomplishments of women, and how much women STEP UP every year, against all odds, we show the next generation of women and girls and boys and men what it means to be equal, and what it looks like to be fair.”

Desiree, along with a group of other women from recording labels, signed a letter to the Recording Academy’s board. In the letter, they stated that the academy was, “woefully out of touch with today’s music, the music business, and even more significantly society.” In addition, they called for Portnow’s resignation. The academy, in turn, has stated that it’s going to put forward efforts to ensure that all forms of bias and barriers are eliminated to promote female advancement.Since Desiree Perez has been a strong supporter of the #MeToo movement among her fellow female artists, it comes as no surprise that she was among those to spearhead the problem presented by Portnow’s comments.

Dr. Mark Mofid: The New Face In Aesthetics

Many people consider aesthetics as part of something they need to maintain. People are very cautious about how their face should be kept flawless to reconstructing a particular part they are not contented of and so this is where plastic surgery comes into the picture. A plastic surgeon’s job is to reconstruct parts which are not proportional to the body of a person or enhance a particular part of the body or face to make the person’s look more enticing. In San Diego, there is a known plastic surgeon in the area, and that is Dr. Mark Mofid.

Dr. Mark Mofid, a certified plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and also is certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, is said to provide quality and the most advanced procedure concerning reconstructive surgery. Dr. Mark Mofid does not do impulsive treatment plans to his patients. His secret to a neat work and successful operations is how he carefully evaluates his patients. Before coming up with an idea, he talks to his patients one on one to know and to study what the main problem is. From the evaluation and interview, he then thinks of advanced and efficient ways to meet his patient’s needs and wants and more

Dr. Mark Mofid started by his dismay on available implants in the market. And with this, he studied the procedure and learned the techniques from his mentor from Brazil, Dr. Raul Gonzalez. Dr. Mofid said that his methods had improved over time and that his secret to success is to study his subject very well. In an interview, he said that when he started his career in plastic surgery, he was not mindful of what aesthetics mean. He just did operate but as he succeeded in his career, he then realized the importance of knowing the background and the needs of his patients.

As aesthetics contributes to our society today, we may also have to think of how to be responsible when using it. We, on the other hand, must be then thankful for what we have but in case of critical situations, we can always seek for professional help in the area of aesthetics.

As a committed Marxist, Jim Larkin, after experiencing various forms of unfair treatment while on the job, joined the National Union of Dock Laborers, eventually rising to the position of trade union organizer in 1905. In 1907, after being transported to Dublin by the National Union of Dock Laborers due to his radical methods of protest, Mr. Larkin founded the Irish Transport and General Workers Union.

The goal of the ITGWU was to concentrate on creating a collective amongst both the skilled and unskilled Irish laborers of the time, creating one central unit. In 1913, Jim Larkin would be credited as the central figure responsible for the Dublin Lockout, after holding a series of effective protests.

During the Irish Lockout, which would go on to last nearly eight months, over 100,000 Irish workers went on strike, kicking off a game-changing series of events in regards to the practices concerning general laborers.

After the Irish Lockout ended, the Irish Transport and General Workers Union would disband, making way for the formation of the Irish Labor Party. At the onset of World War I, Jim Lakin organized a multitude of anti-war protests in Dublin, eventually relocating to the United States, although he would eventually garner a conviction for communism, as well as criminal anarchy, and be deported.

Jim Larkin continued to fight for the rights of Irish Workers until his death on January 30, 1947.
